generic subject line #1

What if I told you subject lines don't matter that much?

What if subject lines don't matter that much?

Throw the book out. Forget everything you know.

Are subject lines all that?

What if by trying to be different, edgy and frame-breaking, we actually end up sounding just like everybody else?

"Forget all you know... or think you know""

I want to show you an example of why there’s more to great engagement than really cool subject lines.

Take a look at this screenshot:

Image of Harry's email in an inbox

The email from Growth.Design if the big blue arrow doesn’t make it obvious.

That email is from Marketing Examples run by Harry Dry.

Harry sends really excellent emails that are packed with value. His newsletter is one of my favourites - I love reading it.

So, when that email lands, I’m opening it because I know it’ll be good.

In other words, Harry has a reputation for sending good emails. He doesn’t need to rely on subject line ‘flair’.

And my co-founder James knows Harry and knows that his open rates are really good.

The message in this week’s newsletter? What are you doing to ensure you get a good reputation for sending good emails?

Because that’s more important than what your subject line says.

Want help brainstorming how to build a great reputation?

What’s going on at The Inbox Club?

We had a photoshoot. And it looks like every other agency photoshoot you’ve ever seen.

We wish we were cool enough to set fire to the status quo when it comes to professional photographs. That’s why we stick to newsletters.

It was an excuse to be in a bar at midday at least…

Awww bless. Our parents are so proud.

Catch you next time,
