A newsletter won't save you

It should be your content flagship, but it needs support.

Newsletters are great. I love ‘em.

(“Newsletter” is a bit of a shitty name. I prefer thought-leadership-email-nurture-value-driven-content, TLENVDC for short - we’re still workshopping this. Thoughts/answers on a postcard. Or an email.)

But a newsletter won’t make or break your business.

It needs some help.

Here are some ways you can support your newsletter.

Assemble your “content Avengers”

I’m going to be quick here. Here are 5 ways you can support your newsletter using other channels.

  1. Social media - Got a bunch of follows/connections/friends? Convert them into true fans and get them onto your email list. Once you’ve captured them, they’re yours to love and cherish.

  2. Whitepaper - ‘Whitepaper’ sounds boring dunnit. What we really want is something of value we can offer in exchange for email sign-ups. So pick one subject you’re an expert in and do a deep dive - make it interesting, valuable and enhance the message with some cool graphics.

  3. Webinars - If someone is willing to sit through your 45-minute LinkedIn live, you can bet they’d be happy to receive some emails from you. Capture your attendees and nurture them.

  4. Blog - All that great value you’re providing on your blog for free? Why not gate it? You could ask someone for their email address to “read more”. This is a bold move; you better make sure your blog is good enough.

  5. Website - Are you converting site visitors to subscribers? I’m a little biased, but I reckon a newsletter sign-up prompt should be front and centre. You want your visitors to enter your ecosystem and begin to understand what you do and who you do it for.
